Mental Health Foundation Australia:

  • The Mental Health Foundation Australia is Australia’s first mental health organisation established in 1930. The Foundation has played a significant role in establishing the current network of services and support for mental health consumers.
  • The Mental Health Foundation runs a number of Mental Health Support Groups. These support groups allow members to exchange new methods, skills and strategies to cope with current challenges.

Heads Up - workplace mental health support service:

  • Developed by Beyond Blue and supported by the Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance, Heads Up provides practical information and resources on a broad range of workplace mental health strategies. To find out more visit the Heads Up website: https://www.headsup.org.au/healthy-workplaces.
  • If you need to talk through any workplace concerns, contact the Beyond Blue Support Service on 1300 22 4636 (24 hours /7 days a week). Their trained mental health professionals will listen, provide information and advice, and point you in the right direction so you can seek further support.

Lifeline:

  • Lifeline is a national charity providing all Australians experiencing emotional distress with access to 24-hour support and services. Anyone across Australia who is experiencing a personal crisis, contemplating suicide or caring for someone in crisis can contact Lifeline. Regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation, trained Crisis Supporters are ready to listen without passing judgement and to provide support and referrals. Financial support available for carers:

  • If you are a carer, you may be able to receive financial assistance from the Australian Government. Payments vary depending on the amount of care you provide.
  • The Carer Payment is income support for those that give constant care to someone who has a severe disability, illness or an adult who is frail aged. The Carer Allowance is a fortnightly supplement for those that give additional daily care to a person with a disability, medical condition or who is frail aged.
  • The Carer Supplement is a yearly payment to help with the cost of caring for a person. A carer may be able to get this payment if they receive a Carer Payment or a Carer Allowance. There are several eligibility requirements for each type of financial help.

Carer Gateway:

  • The Carer Gateway is an Australian Government initiative that helps unpaid carers. It provides practical information and advice; helps you to get the services and support you need; provides free counselling services over the phone; provides free coaching to help you in your role, and lets you connect with other carers through a community forum.

MyCompass - a personalised tool to help build good mental health:

  • Developed by the Black Dog Institute, myCompass is a free online self- help program for people who want to build good mental health, as well as for those with mild to moderate depression, anxiety and stress.
  • Based on a user’s responses to questions during registration, myCompass recommends online learning modules that best match the individual’s needs. Alternatively, you can select modules that interest you. myCompass also allows users to track their thoughts, feelings and behaviours and provides graphical feedback to help them recognise unhelpful patterns and possible triggers.
